| Friday, 17 August, 2001, 17:27 GMT 18:27 UK Deayton's Mirror complaint rejected ![]() Angus Deayton hosts Have I Got News for You Television presenter Angus Deayton has lost his battle with a newspaper over its claims of his "ridiculous travel demands" on a trip to Paris. Deayton, who hosts BBC One's Have I Got News for You news quiz, protested to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) about an article in the Mirror newspaper gossip pages. The paper printed a story about the star's demands during a trip to Paris for a party thrown by Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones. The party was celebrating the 62m sale of the Talkback production company, previously part-owned by Smith and Rhys Jones. The article quoted the organiser of the trip, who said Deayton had caused her "considerable inconvenience". She claimed he changed his travel plans at the last minute and demanded a specific seat on a Eurostar train. 'Unfair' The Mirror's 3am column then quoted the Talkback worker claiming Deayton asked to stay in a separate hotel "away from the hoi polloi". Deayton took offence to the article and complained to the PCC that it was "unfair" and a breach of its code of conduct. A PCC spokesman told BBC News Online: "We understood his irritation at the suggestion that he was 'obtuse' but the woman was entitled to say she had been inconvenienced, and that came across in the story." The PCC decided it could not criticise The Mirror's coverage because there had been no breach of its code. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Showbiz stories now: Links to more Showbiz stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
