Although the interviewer made clear his disapproval for the language, the damage had been done according to a TV watchdog. The incident took place at 8am on May 13 this year when the group took part in a live TV interview between programmes on Nickelodeon. One member of the group, who was not named, swore twice in quick succession before being quickly removed from the cable and satellite station's airwaves. The presenter then apologised for the use of a four-letter word.
The channel described "Feck off" - as "a phrase made popular by the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted". But the Independent Television Commission said it was still unacceptable at eight o'clock in the morning on a children's channel, and upheld a viewer's complaint. Nickelodeon told the ITC that it "believed the behaviour to be the result of immaturity and thoughtlessness rather than any deliberate attempt to shock or offend". Guidance given to guests before they went on air had been tightened, the programme said. The Dublin-based group B*Witched, who are all in their teens, topped the charts this summer with their first single, C'est La Vie. Edele and Keavy Lynch, 18, are twin sisters to Boyzone's Shane Lynch, and other members of the group are Sinead O'Caroll, 19, and Lindsay Armaou, 17. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
