| Monday, 6 August, 2001, 12:10 GMT 13:10 UK Big Brother auction restarts ![]() Bidding for the chair had reached 47,000 The online auction for items from the Big Brother house has been restarted after a number of hoax bids halted its progress last week. The online auction at eBay had seen bids of up to 47,000 for the diary room chair. But auction organisers discovered that some of the bids were fake and set up registration for the auction before allowing it to restart. Now the highest bid for the black and white seat has reached just 410.
The auction was supposed to close on 4 August but it has been extended for a week due to the hoaxes. Bed clothes Other items from the sale include winner Brian Dowling's bed, a painting created by the housemates and the contestants application forms. Bidding for the bedclothes of runner-up Helen Adams has reached 500. Money from the auction will go to various charities. It was thought around 63,000 had been raised before the auction had to be restarted. Last year, the diary room chair was bought by comedian Alan Davies for 35,000, beating a bid from contestant Nasty Nick Bateman. The house in Bow, east London, is due to be torn down by the end of the September. The show's production company Endemol have denied press reports that the house will be available for hire for parties. "There's a couple of internal functions happening in the next few weeks, but no external hiring out," the spokesman told BBC News Online. "It has to be taken down in the next couple of months because we don't have planning permission beyond then." | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top TV and Radio stories now: Links to more TV and Radio stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
