 | | Monday, 6 August, 2001, 09:31 GMT 10:31 UK Ben Affleck enters rehab  Ben Affleck checked himself into clinic Hollywood actor Ben Affleck - star of blockbusters including the recent Pearl Harbor - has checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation centre. A spokesman for Affleck said the actor had decided himself to go to the centre in Malibu, California on Tuesday last week. In a statement, Affleck's spokesman David Pollick said: "Ben is a self-aware and smart man who had decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol. "He has chosen to seek out professional assistance and is committed to travelling a healthier road with the support of his family, friends and fans."
Affleck, 28, is considered one of the US movie industry's hottest young stars. As well as his heart-throb leading role in World War II epic Pearl Harbor, Affleck starred in Shakespeare in Love, Armageddon and Dogma. In Dogma he starred alongside his long-time friend Matt Damon. The two, who met at the age of eight when they both started acting, also have a close working partnership. They shared an Oscar for their screenplay from the movie Good Will Hunting. Affleck has just finished work on action film The Sum of All Fears, based on the Tom Clancy novel. In the film, he stars alongside Morgan Freeman, to play the spy Jack Ryan - a role he took over from Harrison Ford.
