| Thursday, 2 August, 2001, 01:34 GMT 02:34 UK Connery 'could promote Skoda' ![]() James Bond is often behind the wheel of an Aston Martin Former James Bond Sir Sean Connery may be switching his allegiance from Aston Martin to Skoda. The Spanish division of the Czech car manufacturer is in discussions with the Scottish actor to appear in television adverts for Skoda's new Octavia range of cars.
"The Spanish importer of Skoda has been in negotiations with Sir Sean about the possibility of his featuring in an advert," said a Skoda UK spokeswoman. 'On hold' "The project has been put on hold because of Sir Sean's movie-making commitments. The Spanish importers will now have to decide whether to go ahead with the plan when Sir Sean is free again." "The adverts may be shown in Spain and possibly could be shot in Scotland. But it's really too early to give any firm details," she concluded. Sir Sean was seen driving an Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger and Thunderball. Aston Martin are in talks with producers to use their new 200mph Vanquish supercar in the next Bond film. BMW cars have been seen in the last three Bond movies, greatly boosting sales. Now part of the Volkswagen group, Skoda used to have a reputation for poor build quality, but are now becoming re-established as makers of affordable and reliable cars. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Showbiz stories now: Links to more Showbiz stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
