An MTV spokesman said: "We are in talks with his people. We think he's great, but as to whether something will happen, who knows? We want to get him in for a screen test."

MTV recently developed a proposal for a breakfast show to replace the outgoing Big Breakfast show on Channel 4.

However, Dowling is being considered for a general presenting role rather a role on the proposed Big Breakfast replacement.

After winning the show Dowling insisted he would return to his job as a Ryanair steward, which is being kept open for him until 1 September.

The runner-up, bubbly hairdresser Helen Adams, is also being offered opportunities in television.
