The reunion was to be the highlight of two star-studded September concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden to celebrate Michael's 30 years as a solo artist.

An open letter written last week, allegedly by Jermaine and Randy Jackson, raised objections.

'Exorbitant'

Jermaine and Randy were said to be unhappy with the "exorbitant ticket prices" for the shows, and were not keen to share the stage with other performers.

David Gest, producer of the concerts, responded by issuing a statement excluding Jermaine from the line-up, while not commenting on the status of Randy.

Another statement was issued on Monday, allegedly from Marlon Jackson, saying Randy would join him, Michael, Tito and Jackie for the reunion, but Jermaine would not.

"I am very sorry for the confusion my brother Jermaine has caused by his statement, which he also attributed to my youngest brother, Randy," Marlon said.

"Randy has never seen the statement that Jermaine sent out. We wish Jermaine all the best on his solo career," Marlon added.

Randy was not a member of the original Jackson 5. Jermaine left the group when the four other members left record label Motown to sign with Epic records.

Randy replaced Jermaine and the name was changed to The Jacksons as Motown retained the rights to the name of The Jackson Five.

Jermaine rejoined his brothers in 1984 for the Victory tour and album.

John McLaughlin, a spokesman for the Jackson family, said that despite Randy and Jermaine's reservations about the concert, both planned to participate.

A spokeswoman for the producers said on Monday that Gest "only wanted people (in the show) who are happy doing it" and he "interpreted" Jermaine's remarks in the memo to mean that he "did not want to participate in the event".

Michael Jackson's forthcoming album, Invincible, has taken three years and a reported �20m ($28m) to make. Reports have said Jackson recorded more than 50 tracks for the album, before settling on the final 16.

It is expected to be released in September, with the first single tipped to be Rock My World.
