| Wednesday, 18 July, 2001, 09:54 GMT 10:54 UK Lord of the Rings goes mobile ![]() One of the interactive services will be a text message adventure Fans of Lord of the Rings will soon be able to access content on their mobiles inspired by the impending trilogy of films. Wireless entertainment developers Riot Entertainment (Riot-E) have secured exclusive rights to develop various interactive services in time for the first film's premi�re in December. The interactive services planned include simple SMS text message games to graphically-rich multiplayer adventures. The games are currently in development, and are expected to be made available over the summer in Europe, Asia and the United States.
'Launch pad' New Line Cinema are confident that the wireless games will prove just as popular as the official website of the films. The website generated 350 million hits in three months since relaunching on 12 January 2001. In April, Riot-E produced a daily SMS bulletin to coincide with the UK release of Bridget Jones's Diary, as well as personality tests, quizzes and polls.
Riot-E has also gone into partnership with Japanese company Cybird to deliver wireless content and interactive games for Sam Raimi's forthcoming Spiderman movie to Japanese mobile networks. The first film of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, is set for release on December 19, 2001.
