The hit romantic comedy - based on Helen Fielding's best-selling novel - has held on to the top of the box office chart in the UK and Ireland for a third week. It has had record takings of �21m after only three weeks in the cinemas. And it took �3.5m from 423 cinemas over the weekend, according to Screen International
Action drama The Mexican, which pairs Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, is a new entry in the chart at number two with ticket sales of �1.1m. Pitt plays a mobster who must recover an antique pistol called "the Mexican", while Roberts stars as his girlfriend. The reviews have been mixed but most are in agreement that The Sopranos star James Gandolfini steals the show. Family adventure Spy Kids, starring Antonio Banderas, slid from two to three with sales of �837,000.
Seagal plays a tough cop in an inner-city precinct who discovers a web of dirty cops and corruption Helping Seagal's character to find the truth is crime boss Latrell Walker. The film opened at number four with sales of �510,000.
