The dance duo will also form their own political party called The Guilty Party to give an alternative to people who do not want to abstain but who do not want to vote for the major parties.

The single will be called Re:Volution and will be released on 4 June, to tie in with the expected general election date of 7 June.

"On the one hand, it's just a bit of satire," said Matt Black, one half of Coldcut. "Political parties are pretty corrupt and useless and so are we - but we're just honest about it. That's why we're the Guilty Party.

"On a more serious tip, we think it's a fault in the system that people aren't allowed to express their dissatisfaction with all the political parties when they vote. There should be an option whereby one can vote for none of the above."

Black and his Coldcut partner Jonathan More have spent the past year collecting soundbites from politicians' speeches and have "gone to town with them" for the single.

Mr Hague is heard calling for "a 21st century revolution", and Mr Blair features, saying "the lunatics are taking over". Home Secretary Jack Straw also stars saying "acid test" over and over, with an acid house-style backing track.

More says the song includes "contemporary funk-punk, nose-bleed guitar samples and harsh post-junglist beats".

'Strategy'

Black and More will feature in the video with their heads superimposed on the politicians' bodies.

The Guilty Party will also be running a campaign and staging events. Black says: "Our quango think-tank is deep in discussion at the moment for our strategy.

Coldcut have "gone to town" with speeches

"You can rest assured that it will be funky and will involve partying," he says.

They intend to stand for Westminster, and suggested having Screaming Lord Such as one of their candidates, despite the fact that he is dead.

But a more serious point they are trying to make, says Black, is that people are entitled to criticise the authorities but a community only gets the authorities it deserves.

"That's a question of the consciousness of the community. We develop our consciousness using music and satire and art."

More and Black are also head of the respected dance music label Ninja Tune and helped launch the careers of Yazz and Lisa Stansfield.

They have also worked with Blondie, The Orb and Youssou N'Dour.
