Andrew Motion led the tributes

The four poets read poems written by the Welsh literary figure who died last September at the age of 87.

Thomas was regarded as one of the finest poets of the last century and he wrote more than 20 volumes of poetry in a career lasting more than half a century.

A priest for most of his life, he was an ardent nationalist and became increasingly outspoken as he got older.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was at the centre of a public row when he praised arsonists who firebombed English-owned holiday homes in Wales, when he claimed that English speakers were destroying the Welsh language and culture.

His hallmark themes as a poet were nature, Welsh history and the lives of country people.
