The original Bill and Ben puppets are going on display in London, for what could be the final time.

The 1952 puppets can be seen at an exhibition at the Museum of London from Sunday, together with the puppets used for the BBC's recent revival of the children's programme.

It will probably be the last public appearance for the highly fragile string creations, which are worth about �100,000 each.

Their modern counterparts - created from steel and latex - are thought to be worth �10,000.

Museum curator Beverley Cook said: "We are delighted the original 1950s Bill and Ban puppets will be coming out of retirement.

"It's a thrill to see both sets of puppets on display at once."

The Flowerpot Men first appeared on TV as part of the Watch With Mother slot, with their adventures being shown until 1971.

The exhibition runs until 17 April.
