| Wednesday, 21 March, 2001, 00:59 GMT Royal honour for TV's first family ![]() Graham Norton won the best presenter award BBC One sitcom The Royle Family has won the award for the best comedy drama at the prestigious Royal Television Society Programme Awards. The programme beat off competition from fellow BBC show One Foot In The Grave and ITV's Cold Feet to scoop the prize at the ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
But the disappointment was short-lived for McCall, with Big Brother winning the team award and the Best Prime Time Feature Award. "I thought they deserved it - it's the best production team I have ever come across," she said. Tears She said she was not disappointed to miss out on the presenter award, adding that her Big Brother team were "nearly in tears" when she did not win the honour. Comic character Ali G scooped the entertainment award, beating fellow Channel Four show Trigger Happy TV and ITV's The Frank Skinner Show.
The gritty BBC One drama series, Clocking Off, won Best Drama Series and its writer Paul Abbot also won an award. Best actor went to Steven Mackintosh for his part in the BBC drama, Care, and Katy Murphy won Best Actress for her role in Donovan Quick, also by the BBC. Presenters Ant and Dec were also celebrating after their Saturday morning kids show SM:TV Live scooped the children's entertainment award. BBC One's Blue Peter won Best Children's Factual.
