The auction was hosted by Film 2001 presenter Jonathan Ross at the Park Lane Hotel in central London.

A total of �50,000 was raised for the charity.

Duet

Norton also bought a dress by fashion designer Thierry Mugler for �950.

The dress had been worn by model and actress Jerry Hall.

Norton said: "I've been trying to get her on the show for ages and I thought this would be the best way."

Hear'Say performed at the event

Pop group Hear'Say performed at the event.

Darius Danesh - one of the hopefuls from the Popstars show which created the group - then sung a duet of Britney Spears' Hit Me Baby One More Time with Ross.

Each of the 30 tables at the event had donated �500 to the charity to hear the song.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox paid �4,000 for a Swan Lake outfit used in the hit British movie Billy Elliot.

A pair of Liz Hurley's silk Versace shoes were bought for �950 by an unknown male bidder.
