| Tuesday, 9 January, 2001, 19:14 GMT All Saints keep fans guessing ![]() All Saints: Never Ever to split up? Pop group All Saints have kept fans guessing over reports they are to split up. The highly successful quartet, who have had five number one hits during their four-year career, are reported to be close to going their separate ways after a series of rows. A statement about the group's future was expected by 1500 GMT on Monday but the time passed without any word. A similar statement was expected on Tuesday afternoon, but, again, nothing was forthcoming from the their label, London Records - depite press reports that sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton are about to sign their own record deal. All Saints formed in 1996 when sisters the Appletons got together with their old stage school friend Melanie Blatt, who had already been recording with Shaznay Lewis. Their latest single, All Hooked Up, is due out on Monday and the women are due to start a UK tour in May.
And their appeal, four years later, is still going strong. Their single Pure Shores, the soundtrack to Leonardo DiCaprio The Beach, was been voted the best song of 2000, in a poll conducted by music TV channel VH1. The single, produced by William Orbit and from the soundtrack to the movie The Beach, came number one in the channel's Top 100 of the year. It also took the charts by storm, reaching number one and selling 700,000 copies. And in November, All Saints were named best pop act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm. But despite their successes, there have been several reports of stresses and strains pushing them to the brink of splitting up. Both Natalie and Melanie have daughters, and in November Nicole announced that she was pregnant with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher's baby. The latest disagreement has reportedly arisen because the Appleton sisters no longer want to work with the other two members. |
