| Sunday, 7 January, 2001, 17:45 GMT Zoe's baby bawls on air ![]() A new radio star is born Zoe Ball's baby has made his broadcasting debut on the station she left in March last year. Baby Woody, who was born three weeks ago, bawled and gurgled his way onto the airwaves of BBC Radio 1 on Sunday. He made his appearance while Zoe, a former Radio 1 breakfast show presenter, chatted to presenter Jamie Theakston about her experiences of motherhood. He was brought to the phone by Zoe's recording artist husband Norman Cook on the insistence of Theakston, an old pal of Zoe's, with whom he presents the Channel 4 series "The Priory". As Zoe chatted on the station, she said: "He does sound like a cat being strangled." Breast feeding Zoe revealed that she is breast-feeding, but added that her habit of feeding in public had met with a mixed response. She said women accepted it, but men were embarrassed and tended to leave the room.
Although firmly rooted into her new routine, the former Radio 1 DJ, whose early morning stints meant she was used to lack of sleep, admitted that she and her husband were drained by the experience of parenthood. When 8lb 5oz Woody was born on 15 December, Zoe said he bore a passing resemblance to EastEnders' Phil Mitchell, and that he did not look like either her or Norman. "He doesn't really look like either of us but he does have Norman's hairline," she said at the time. Zoe married the chart-topping musician, known as Fat Boy Slim, in August 1999 at Babington Hall, Somerset, surrounded by scores of celebrity guests. |
