| Thursday, 4 January, 2001, 13:04 GMT Street and Spandau stars joins Art ![]() Charlie Lawson as Jim McDonald in the Street Former Coronation Street actor Charlie Lawson is to team up with ex-Spandau Ballet star Gary Kemp in the West End play Art. The duo, who will be joined by another former Street star, James Gaddas, will take up their roles in the long-running show on 23 January. Lawson, 41, played Jim McDonald for more than a decade until he left the ITV series late last year.
Gary Kemp's first high-profile acting role was in The Krays alongside his brother Martin, who has found renewed fame in EastEnders. Also 41, he recently filmed a British gangster film called Dog Eat Dog, which also stars Alan Davies and Nathan Constance. James Gaddas, who played barman Vinnie Sorrell in the Street, has also appeared in Medics, Grafters and Jonathan Creek, as well as in productions at the Royal National Theatre. The play, about perceptions of art and friendship, is one of the West End's most well-known shows. It changes its cast regularly and this will be its 18th set of actors since it opened in 1995. Written by Yasmina Reza, it centres on a man who buys a painting which appears to be completely white, and the reactions of his friends. It currently stars Warren Mitchell, Ken Campbell and John Fortune.
