| Wednesday, 3 January, 2001, 15:50 GMT Paltrow duets Down Under ![]() Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis strike up a duet Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow is enjoying new-found success as a singer. The 28-year-old is number two in the Australian singles charts with a duet, Cruisin', with American singer Huey Lewis. The song is taken from the film Duets, in which she stars alongside Huey Lewis. Duets, directed by her father Bruce Paltrow, opened in the UK last year but failed to set the box office alight on either side of the Atlantic. But Miss Paltrow's singing has proved far more popular, proving a hit in Australia, New Zealand, where it is number five in the charts, and in the US, where it reached number four in the Adult Contemporary Singles chart. Karaoke The actress claims to have never received a singing lesson and says her voice comes from singing duets with her mother, actress Blythe Danner, when a child. In the film Paltrow plays a singer competing in a karaoke championship in the US. She has been beaten to the top spot in Australia by US rock band Wheatus with their single Teenage Dirtbag. Crusin' is due for release in the UK on 22 January. The actress was in Scotland at the end of last year, as a guest at the wedding of Madonna and Guy Ritchie. She was reportedly Madonna's maid of honour. Just a week before the wedding a man was convicted of stalking the actress at her parents' home in Los Angeles.
