| Tuesday, 28 November, 2000, 10:32 GMT The Who play charity gig ![]() Roger Daltrey: Raising money for cancer charity Rock legends The Who were joined by top musicians from across the generations in a charity performance on Monday night at London's Royal Albert Hall. Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Stereophonics front man Kelly Jones, Bryan Adams and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder were among the artists who took to the stage for the last date in The Who's UK tour. But the men who once sang about hoping to die before they got old showed no sign of ageing as they blasted out some of their classic hits. Who singer Roger Daltrey, bassist John Entwistle and Pete Townshend gave a powerful performance reminiscent of their 60s shows. Cancer fund The concert, which was being screened on a pay-per-view basis on cable channel ONdigital, saw former Jam singer Paul Weller join Pete Townshend for a rendition of the early Who song Sad About Us. Canadian star Bryan Adams, was also on stage with the band performing Behind Blue Eyes, from their Who's Next album. Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder flew from Hawaii to join them in singing I'm One, from the rock opera, Quadrophenia. So far, The Who have raised more than 1m on their tour for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which helps maintain specialist hospital units for young people with cancer. Cash from ONdigital's pay-per-view event will also go to help the charity. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
