Newsround apologises over swearing
Newsround presenters
Presenter Kate Sanderson, centre, did not hear
BBC Newsround presenter Kate Sanderson has apologised to viewers after a four-letter word was broadcast on the children's news show on Tuesday.

The word "s***" went out on air at 1700 GMT on BBC One during a live link to the Millennium Dome.

Sanderson said on Wednesday that everyone on Newsround was sorry for any offence caused by the remark.

She gave a special mention to all those members of the public who had emailed to complain.

But, she explained, the swear word had come from a female member of another film crew and was unrelated to their broadcast.

The voice of the woman was picked by the programme's microphones. She was not aware her words were being broadcast.

The Newsround team was at the Dome in Greenwich, south east London, on Tuesday to cover the attempted jewellery heist.

But a crew from a production truck, providing links for two other shows, was audible in the background.

Presenter Sanderson had been unaware of the bad language and continued to present the show as normal after they handed back to the studio.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "We apologise for this genuine mistake which occurred due to a technical error at an outside broadcast."
