2010 will be a 'tough year' for car sales

Sales of new cars reached almost 2 million in 2009. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders say that despite the lowest level of car registrations since 1995, sales in the latter half of the year were boosted by the government's car scrappage scheme.

The SMMT's Chief Executive Paul Everitt told the BBC he was 'reasonably satisfied' by the 2009 figures.
