Majestic reduced its minimum purchase rule in September |
Majestic Wine has seen a strong rise in sales over the Christmas period, boosted by its decision last year to loosen its minimum purchase rule. The bulk wine retailer said its like-for-like sales, which pull out the impact of new store openings, rose 11.7% in the nine weeks to 4 January. The company said it had seen a "substantial increase" in customers trying Majestic for the first time. In September, it reduced its minimum order rule from 12 to six bottles. "We are delighted with the growth in sales over the Christmas period," said chief executive Steve Lewis.
