The union says the planned strike will hit three airlines at Heathrow |
Airport baggage handlers and check-in staff at Heathrow and Aberdeen airports are set to hold a series of 48-hour strikes in a row over pay. The Unite union said members working for SAS Ground Services would walk out from 22 December, with further strikes from Boxing Day and 3 January. Unite says the stoppages will affect travellers on Emirates, Turkish and Thai airlines at Heathrow. A spokesman for Emirates said it expected no impact on its services. No-one from SAS Ground Services has been available for comment. Unite added that passengers flying from Aberdeen with KLM, Air France and Wideroe and Atlantic will also be affected. "It is deeply regrettable that our members have been forced into a position where they have to threaten industrial action over the Christmas and New Year period to get this company to play fair," said Unite's regional industrial officer Kevin Hall. The planned strikes come as British Airways cabin crew are due to walk out for 12 days from 22 December.
