Mortgage lending increased by 2% in September compared to the month before according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

£12.5bn was lent out during the month which is the second highest figure this year.

However, the amount is still 27% lower than in September 2008.

Sue Anderson from the Council of Mortgage Lenders told the BBC she believed there would be further increases in levels of lending in the months to come.
