US bank Goldman Sachs has announced bumper profits for the past quarter, saying it has put aside $5.35bn for pay and bonuses over the period.
The firm was not hit as badly by the mortgage-related debt which helped cause the financial crisis as some of its competitors.
Its 31,000 employees now stand to earn an average of $172,581 for the three-month period.
Hugh Pym reports.
