The Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has said that both preferred bidders for GM Europe have made a committment to continue production in the UK.
GM owns Vauxhall, which employs 5,500 UK workers and has plants in Luton and Ellesmere Port. Lord Mandelson added that some job losses were inevitable.
He added that the company would inevitably face some form of restructuring, as other car manufacturers round the world were being forced to do.
