Travelling further for less

Table Mountain in Cape Town
Longhaul discounts could make Cape Town cheaper than the costas

Many Britons are still choosing to holiday aboard despite the tourism minister backing a campaign to encourage people to holiday locally.

With the cost of some flights set to be cut drastically, could long haul prove cheaper than local?

Barbara Follett, minister for culture, creative industries and tourism said British food and the quality of service and heritage meant many chose to holiday in the country.

Currently the fifth largest industry in the UK, domestic tourism is worth around £114 billion but with the guarantee of good weather elsewhere, many look beyond our borders.

Some tour operators are reported to be considering slashing the cost of long haul flights. It could mean Thailand or South Africa may work out cheaper than France or Spain.

BBC Business are looking to speak to holidaymakers who've managed to haggle down the cost of a long haul trip

Are you rethinking your plans for a summer holiday? Does the falling value of the pound mean you may not be able to afford a break this year? Are you worried about your job and think you may have to cancel if you book now for the summer? Are you looking at low cost alternatives to your traditional break in France of Spain?
