FTSE 100 index has its worst year

The FTSE 100 index has recorded its biggest annual decline since its creation in 1984, giving fresh emphasis to the global downturn.

Britain's main share index ended 2008 trading down 31.3% compared with a year earlier. Emma Simpson reports.
