ITV is reducing its regional news service |
ITV News is planning to cut 430 jobs in its regional news service, as part of wider plans to reduce costs as advertising revenue slows. This follows last week's announcement that it is going to cut back the amount of regional news that it broadcasts. As part of a restructuring plan, the broadcaster plans to cut its newsrooms around the UK from 17 to nine. Unions have criticised the proposals and warned of possible industrial action to fight the job cuts. It is expected that these job losses will bring the total number of recent job cuts at ITV to around a thousand by early 2009. Laura Davison, assistant broadcasting officer of the National Union of Journalists, said she could not rule out industrial action. "We do not accept the level of cuts ITV News wants to make and it is difficult to see how we can avoid a fight over this."
