BMW is on a cost cutting drive
BMW is to cut 5,600 jobs by the end of this year, as it aims to reduce costs.

The carmaker said 2,500 full-time manufacturing positions will go, as will 2,500 part-time factory roles, and 600 sales and distribution jobs.

Munich-based BMW said the move, which is in addition to 2,500 positions already eliminated, will cut annual costs by 500m euros ($744m; 380m).

The company first said in December of last year that it was looking to trim its cost base.

The total cut of 8,100 positions equates to 7.5% of the firm's workforce.

BMW's most recent quarterly results failed to meet market expectations.
