The group that owns retailers Currys and Dixons has named a top Tesco manager as its new chief executive. John Browett, 43, will join DSG International in September, replacing John Clare whose retirement was announced last month.
Mr Browett is currently operations development director at Tesco, the UK's top supermarket chain.
Prior to that the Cambridge graduate was in charge of Tesco's online shopping business, Tesco.com.
'Strong positions'
DSG, formerly known as Dixons, made a 303m profit last year.
It is the UK's leading electrical retailer, selling everything from televisions to digital cameras to washing machines.
Its Dixons stores, which once featured on most High Streets, have now been rebranded as Currys.digital, while the Dixons name lives on as an online specialist electrical retailer, Dixons.co.uk.
DSG chairman Sir John Collins said that Mr Browett would bring "a wealth of retailing experience to the Group from Tesco."
Mr Browett said he was delighted to be taking the role.
"We have some great opportunities ahead that will build on the strong positions that have been established within the UK, internationally and on the internet."
DSG shares climbed about 1% on news of the appointment.
Pali Stockbrokers retail analyst Nick Bubb said that Mr Browett was "widely regarded as one of the rising stars of the Tesco management team".
