Strong investment has boosted investor confidence
Job creation and strong investment have left German investors feeling more optimistic in May.

The ZEW institute's economic sentiment survey of 301 analysts and institutional investors rose to 24.0 from April's figure of 16.5.

"The economic upswing seems to be hardly influenced by the value-added tax increase and the economic downturn in the US," said ZEW's Wolfgang Franz.

Germany raised VAT from 16% to 19% at the start of the year.

The ZEW figure is the latest positive indicator from the German economy.

Last week, official gross domestic product figures showed growth of 0.5% in the first three months of the year, boosted by strong investment.

"The economy is doing well," said Ulrike Kastens from investment bank Sal. Oppenheim. "Incoming orders are good, the labour market is going well and domestic demand is reviving."
