US aerospace giant Boeing saw profits top forecasts for the first three months of 2007, boosted by commercial planes and defence contracts. The firm saw profits rise by 27% to $877m for the period, up from $692m a year earlier.
The firm has been boosted by its 787 Dreamliner jet, a fuel-efficient model which already has over 500 orders.
Orders for the Dreamliner rose 8.2%, helped after rival Airbus delayed its A380 plane by two years.
Overall, Boeing's commercial plane unit saw sales up 7% for the quarter to $7.6bn.
Meanwhile the firm's defence arm saw sales increase 7% to $7.7bn, which it said stemmed from improvements to its military plane and logistic support operations.
The firm kept its forecasts for the year unchanged.
Bank of America analyst Robert Stallard said the lack of a change to its forecast "is likely to disappoint" but he added that this was probably a reflection of conservatism at this early part of 2007.
