 Lenovo is not alone in having to recall batteries |
Chinese computer-maker Lenovo has said it will recall about 205,000 batteries which are made by Japanese firm Sanyo and used in IBM's Thinkpad laptops. Lenovo bought IBM's personal computer business last year.
The company has already recalled more than 500,000 batteries made by Sony after one caught fire last year.
Lenovo said that the latest recall was made because of reports that the batteries were overheating and may pose a fire hazard if hit hard on a corner.
A number of battery makers had their products recalled last year as problems emerged.
Analysts said that the latest recall should not hit Lenovo too hard.
"I don't think at this point it negatively affects the company given last year there was practically an industry-wide recall based on the batteries," said Martin Kariithi, an analyst at Technology Business Research.
"It's not likely to have an impact on earnings because the manufacturer pays for the costs of a recall."
