Shoppers may soon be able to carry away a home |
Tesco, the UK's biggest supermarket chain, is to move into the buoyant UK property market. Sellers will be able to list their homes on a Tesco website for a one-off fee of about 200.
People using the property sales service will get a Tesco-branded "for sale" sign to put up outside their home.
Last year, rival supermarket Asda provided touch-screen terminals with details of properties for sale in stores in north east England.
According to Henry Prior, founder of property website Primemove, the estate agency industry has been braced for Tesco's entry into the market for some time.
"Their [Tesco's] arrival into the market has been anticipated for the last two years.
"This will be a private sellers' website... People who sell a house will have a real alternative to instructing an agent," he said.
