Global sportswear giant Nike has posted market-beating quarterly profit figures, helped by strong sales in the US and abroad. Nike said profits for the three months to May rose 32% to $437.9m (219.1m), up from $332.8m a year earlier.
The company said future orders, which were up 12%, showed that the brand known for its swoosh symbol still had strong appeal.
Nike has come under pressure recently as consumers rein in spending.
Sales of athletic shoes and apparel at the US company rose 9% to $4.4bn in the quarter, Nike said, even as two of the brand's main customers in the US, Foot Locker and Finish Line, have experienced a tough trading environment.
Analysts attributed the boost to Nike's presence in general stores like JC Penney.
Nike added that currency exchange rate changes had helped support increased revenue.
