British Energy has cut output at Hinkley ahead of further checks |
Nuclear power firm British Energy has unveiled a three-fold rise in profits after higher energy prices offset a reduction in electricity output. Reporting its results for the six months to 1 October, it made a pre-tax profit of 329m ($621m) compared with 81m for the same time last year.
Its half-year revenues rose 35% to 1.4bn from 1bn a year earlier.
British Energy's shares lost 24% in a day last month after it said it had found cracks in third reactor.
The discovery of cracks at Hinkley Point in Somerset came after the firm said it was investigating similar structural faults at its Hunterston plant in Scotland, and Hartlepool in the north east of England.
