S&N is the biggest brewer in the UK, France and Russia |
Brewer Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) has posted a 12% rise in half-year profits boosted partly by the World Cup. Pre-tax profits for the six months to 30 June rose to 187m ($355m) from 167m last year.
The World Cup added 2% to beer and cider market growth in the UK, S&N said, although the tournament had little impact in other markets.
Overall revenues at the firm - whose brands include Foster's, Strongbow and Kronenbourg - rose 6% to 1.99bn.
The UK's biggest brewer said that trading in the second-half of the year had started well, boosted by the recent good weather in Europe.
S&N added that its Baltic Beverages Holding (BBH) business - a 50-50 joint venture with Carlsberg in Russia and Eastern Europe - was continuing to deliver benefits.
Last week, BBH reported a 31% rise in first-half profits and raised its growth and profit margin forecasts.
