Mr Junck will be hoping to leave a bitter takeover battle in the past |
Steelmaker Arcelor, which last month gave in to a hostile takeover by rival Mittal Steel, says its vice-president Roland Junck will head the new firm. The appointment came after Mittal Steel and Arcelor voted in a management board of three executives from each company.
Aditya Mittal, son of Mittal Steel chairman and boss Lakshmi, will be the merged firm's chief financial officer.
The steelmakers are looking to emerge from a bitter takeover that had drawn political opposition in Europe.
Guy Dolle, the chief executive of Arcelor who fought hard to resist Mittal's approaches, will not have an executive role in the newly formed company.
Lakshmi Mittal, the man credited with building Mittal Steel into the world's biggest producer, will become president of the new firm, and will eventually take over as chairman.
The other four management board members are Arcelor's deputy chief executive Michel Wurth, Arcelor chief financial officer Gonzalo Urquijo, Mittal's chief operating officer Malay Mukherjee and Mittal Steel South Africa chief executive Davinder Chugh.
The board of the company, which will be called Arcelor-Mittal, is scheduled to meet for the first time on 8 August.
