Basil Brush returned to TV five years ago after a 20-year absence

Foundation TV Productions, a leading creator of childrens' TV programmes, has been bought by RDF Media - maker of Wife Swap, Faking It and other shows.

RDF is to pay �4m upfront to take control of Foundation and could make further payments of up to �6m depending on the firm's future performance.

RDF has bought a host of businesses since listing its shares last year.

Its acquisitions include Scotland's largest independent TV producer, IWC Media, and Welsh firm Presentable.

RDF said the latest deal would expand its offering into the children's sector, building on its existing expertise in entertainment, features and drama programming.

Established in 1994, Foundation made a �1.1m profit last year on sales of more than �5m.

Other shows it has produced include Ministry of Mayhem, Finger Tips and Eureka TV.

"Foundation is a high quality, profitable producer, managed by talented creatives," said RDF chief executive David Frank.

"When RDF floated we said we would grow and broaden the range of content we produce and we are delighted we are doing exactly that."
