Big Brother is now in its seventh series in the UK |
Endemol, the Dutch television company behind the hit Big Brother show, has seen a 23% rise in half-year turnover. Reporting its results for the first half of 2006, the firm thanked the ongoing success of its reality TV programmes for its strong figures.
Turnover was 517m euros ($651m; 354m), up from 420m euros a year earlier.
Net profit rose 20% to 46m euros, as the results beat market expectations. In addition to Big Brother, other hit Endemol shows include Deal Or No Deal.
Endemol continues to be majority-owned by Spanish telecoms group Telefonica, which floated a 22% stake in the Dutch firm in November of last year.
Recent press reports have continued to speculate that Telefonica is now keen to sell off the remainder of Endemol.
Endemol chief executive Elias Rodriguez-Vina said he expected sales to pass the 1bn euro mark this year.
