Woolworths says it is improving its supply chain efficiency |
UK retailer Woolworths has seen like-for-like sales decline by 7.7% in the first half of this year, hit by a "challenging" retail environment. Woolworths refitted 70 stores during the period and says it is focusing on improving the business by "investing in the store base".
The firm is also looking to increase supply chain efficiency by "encouraging reduction in stock levels".
It added that much was being done to make its products more attractive.
'Enhancing capability'
From August the firm will be marketing a choice for customers between in-store collection and home delivery for over 250,000 items.
In terms of in-store presentation, the "most significant" change affects the Ladybird range which will effectively have its own shop within a shop in 92 stores.
"This performance shows that for us the current retail environment remains challenging," said Woolworths chief executive Mr Bish Jones.
"Against that backdrop we continue to improve the business by investing in the store base, rapidly enhancing our multi-channel capability and drive efficiencies through our supply chain."
