Listerine is one of the Pfizer brands up for sale |
Pharmaceuticals giant GlaxoSmithKline is set to bid more than $15bn (8bn) for part of its rival Pfizer, according to a report. Glaxo wants Pfizer's $4bn-a-year "over the counter" consumer healthcare business, which includes Listerine and Nicorette, the Financial Times said.
Glaxo's own consumer healthcare arm includes brands such as Panadol and Aquafresh toothpaste.
The FT said Glaxo refused to comment on whether it would bid for the business.
The paper added that Colgate-Palmolive and Johnson and Johnson were among other firms likely to be interested.
Last year Glaxo lost out to Reckitt Benckiser in its attempt to buy Boots International - the maker of Nurofen and Strepsils.
