Kenya Airways to buy Dreamliners
Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Boeing's Dreamliner is set to fly in 2008
Kenya Airways is set to buy six Dreamliner planes from US giant Boeing to replace its current 767 models for about $878m (505.7m).

Two will be delivered in 2010 and another four in 2011, said company chief executive Titus Naikuni.

The airline also said that it had signed up for an option on an additional four planes.

Kenya Airways, which has 21 planes, saw passenger numbers rise 23% in the first half of its financial year.

The airline, which is 26%-owned by Air France KLM's Dutch company KLM, reported after-tax profits of 2.2bn shillings ($29.9m) in the six month period to September 2005.

Boeing developed the Dreamliner to lead in the long distance market against European rival Airbus.

The US company is expecting 122 orders for the Dreamliner model between 2008-09, up from a previous estimate of 96. The first Dreamliner is expected to start flying in 2008.
