Thomas Cook is enjoying a sunnier profits climate |
German-owned travel operator Thomas Cook has appointed the former boss of internet provider T-Online as its new chief executive. Thomas Holtrop will take over the helm at Europe's second-biggest tourism firm, replacing Wolfgang Beeser who had been called out of retirement.
Mr Beeser was drafted in to run the company after chief executive Stefan Pichler resigned two years ago.
Back then the company was foundering but it is now set to return to profit.
Thomas Cook is a 50-50 joint venture between Lufthansa and store chain KartstadtQuelle.
Newly appointed chief Thomas Holtrop quit T-Online last autumn.
The reasons for his resignation are officially unknown, but it is believed that he resigned over plans by telecom giant Deutsche Telekom to re-integrate T-Online into its business.
