Disney rebels attack boss search
Walt Disney chief executive Michael Eisner
Michael Eisner is leaving Disney next year
Rebel Disney shareholders Roy Disney and Stanley Gold have accused the company's directors of subverting the search for a new chief executive.

In an open letter to the Disney board, they said they were led to believe that outgoing chief executive Michael Eisner was to participate in the interviews.

They said that if this was true, it would make the process "a mockery".

A Disney spokesman did not comment on Mr Eisner's potential participation, but criticised Mr Disney and Mr Gold.

"They have been consistently wrong in the past and this is nothing more than a perpetuation of a campaign of distortions aimed at advancing their own personal agenda," he said.

'Low standards'

Mr Gold and Mr Disney have long been critical of Mr Eisner and the current Disney board, and helped spark a 2004 shareholder revolt over the company's direction.

Not long after this revolt Mr Eisner announced his intention to step down in 2006.

Mr Gold and Mr Disney are now unhappy about how the process of finding a successor may take place.

"Unfortunately, when it comes to selecting a new CEO, high standards don't seem to be on the board's agenda," they said in their letter.
