Infosys plans to expand its operations in India

The second-biggest software service exporter in India plans to hire 8,000 people this year.

It hired 10,000 people in the nine months to December.

"The company's request is in the final stages of clearance," said Dharam Singh, Chief Minister of Karnataka state, whose capital is Bangalore.

Bangalore is known as the capital of India's technology industry and the country's most important technology firms have their offices there.

About 45% of the company's 35,000 workers are based in Bangalore.

The campus is set to be built in Yelahanka, in the north of the city, Mr Singh said during a visit to the company's facility.

It will be built close to a new $280m (�146.55m; 212.82m euros) international airport project, which will be developed by a private consortium led by Siemens.

He added that Infosys would also be eligible for a further 50 acres of land in a proposed Hi Tech City project, to be developed by the government.
