H&M operates more than 1,100 fashion stores worldwide |
Swedish fashion chain Hennes & Mauritz has weathered tough High Street trading conditions in Europe and the US with a jump in quarterly profits. The firm saw its third-quarter, pre-tax profits rise to 3.32bn kronor ($425m; 240m), from 2.45bn kronor last year.
H&M said that a recent EU trade row over Chinese textile imports would have a minimal impact on its earnings.
The firm recently dropped Kate Moss from an ad deal after the model became embroiled in a drug-taking scandal.
More stores
Millions of Chinese-made bras, trousers and jumpers were impounded at ports across Europe after the EU said China had breached strict quota limits on cheap clothing imports.
Kate Moss was dropped by H&M as the face of a new ad campaign |
The dispute was eventually resolved at the beginning of September.
H&M, which buys 30% of its clothing from China, said all of its Chinese-made items had now been delivered to stores.
The company said the trade dispute would have a "negative influence" on its short-term gross profit but "in the longer perspective, it will have no effect on the group's results".
Earlier this month, H&M dropped Kate Moss from a planned advertising campaign, following allegations in a tabloid newspaper that the British model had used cocaine.
Moss had been due to be the face of an H&M range designed by Stella McCartney.
Separately, H&M said it planned to open 70 new stores in the coming three months, mostly in the US, Canada and Germany. The firm currently operates more than 1,100 stores worldwide.
H&M said sales of its new autumn collection had started well.
