India's Reliance Energy is to invest $11bn (5.9bn) in a 12,000 MW power plant, amid speculation the owning family has resolved its feud. The energy firm - part of giant Reliance Group - said the new plant will be in the eastern state of Orissa.
Separately, chairman Anil Ambani said that Reliance Industries will now supply gas to its 3740 MW power plant in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. This may signal an end to the feud between the Ambani brothers.
Feud settled?
The new plant will help meet the country's growing power needs but most media attention has focused on the statement on Uttar Pradesh.
The two brothers have been at loggerheads since last year over ownership of the $17bn Reliance Group, founded by their late father Dhirubhai Ambani.
This feud had led to Reliance Industries, run by elder brother Mukesh Ambani, refusing to supply gas to the power plant in Uttar Pradesh, which is run by Reliance Energy.
Reliance Energy is India's leading private-sector utility and is run by the younger Anil Ambani.
The $2.2bn company supplies electricity to Mumbai, Delhi, Orissa and Goa and has five million customers.
