Wal-Mart, the US retail giant, has asked a federal appeals court to review a US judge's order giving the go-ahead for a huge sex discrimination lawsuit. The company said the class-action case, involving up to 1.6 million present and former female employees, was "unmanageable and unconstitutional".
The complainants allege that women were systematically paid less than men and passed over for promotion.
The case would be the biggest US civil rights case against a private employer.
The San Francisco appeals court did not comment on Wal-Mart's request.
